Sound concept, I love the additive nature of combining pocket depth and primer height. However, the ergonomics are pretty bad. A lever and tool that aren’t contoured to the hand seem like a major oversight. I had to hone/buff the corners on the lever. The lever is short enough that it’s easy to overshoot your desired seating depth; a longer lever would make for greater repeatability. Also there’s no provision for preventing the shellholder from rotating and thus changing the depth and/or measurement. I made a witness mark for this and I find I have to readjust every 10-12 primers or so. A second-generation version that addresses these concerns would easily be 5/5.

      Hey Macleanhess,
Thanks for your business and the feedback! We are constantly looking to improve our tools and appreciate user input. For the shell-holder rotating – a simple remedy is to add a small amount of high-viscosity grease or die wax to the threads to increase resistance to rotation. Please feel free to reach out to us with any other feedback: [email protected]
      Sincerely,

We’ve made several improvements to the primer gauge tool. Many are subtle/internal with the main one being our shell holder retainer threads have been clocked to tighten up with the shell holder pointing to the left of the dial indicator.

I have had this tool for a couple of years, and it took some getting used to…. I was using the 21st Century tool prior to this one. I was having problems with arthritis in my hands and using the lever, but was able to alleviate this issue by placing a piece of tight fitting rubber tubing over the articulating handle…. they may have a more ergonomic handle now. Anyway, this is the only tool that I know of that matches the primer height with the primer cup depth and allows one to seat to a precise 2-3 thousands of crush. I shoot competitively and I won’t seat primers without this tool. Not saying that it will improve your accuracy, but ignition is critical and I am sure it has played a role in my success in long range benchrest and f class shooting.
